I live in Australia, so we don’t have access to the range of equipment that you do in the US. Bandsaw? The quality isn’t too critical but I’d try to get one with a .3mm thick blade to allow fine cutting. Scrollsaw - go for the DeWalt if you can afford it. Getting a good quality scroll saw is more important that any other piece of equipment. Also buy a vertical sander - the ones with the circular velcro sanding pads. See Claytons FAQ for more info.

Do you have any recommendations on a band saw to buy? You mentioned your equipment isn’t overly expensive; are there certain qualities one should look for? What would you consider to be the recommended toolset for making a Boyer clock? Thanks and great job!

A clock takes as long to build as you want it to. Typically, it takes me about 100 hrs. But the point is not how long it takes, but whether you are having fun while building it.

Started cutting my wheels for Clayton Boyers “Simplicity” a week ago and I found the easiest tool in the world for this work is a scroll saw with a rotary blade. I was able to cut out the pinions in about 5 minutes and the center wheel and third wheel in another 20 or 30. Definitely the way to go on those gears that seem to have no straight edges to be found.
